1. What is it?

Sexual addiction, says (Patrick Carnes, the "father of the sexual addiction movement) " is defined as any sexually-related, compulsive behavior which interferes with normal living and causes severe stress on family, friends, loved ones, and one's work environment. Sexual addiction has been called sexual dependency and sexual compulsivity. By any name, it is a compulsive behavior that completely dominates the addict's life."

2. Why do people become addicted?

As stated above their life becomes unmanageable and they look to sex to satisfy and comfort.

Doug Weiss says, their are three types of addicts- " biolgical addict is someone who has conditioned their body to receive endorphins and enkephlines (brain chemicals) primarily through reinforcing a fantasy state with the ejaculation that provides these. "Psychologically the need to medicate or escape physical, emotional or sexual abuse, can demand a substance..." or "Spiritually a person is filling up the God hole in them, with their sexual addiction..."

3. Is there a difference between sexual addiction and a high sex drive?

If you just have high sex drive when your partner says no you don't react and feel totally rejected. Whereas if you are addicted the reaction is great and there is a need to have to have it, or else you will get angry or act out in some other way.

1. Up to 65% of Christian men are struggling with regular use of pornography.
2. Adult book stores outnumber McDonalds restaurants.
3. 1 out of 3 Christian men are addicted to pornography.
4. So-called “Gentlemens Clubs” are opening faster than Walmarts
many of the girls make more than $200k a year.

5. In 1975 5% of movies were rated “R.” In 1995 65% of movies were rated “R.” And, in 1965 many of our “R” movies today would have had an “X” rating.
6. 86% of porn revenue goes to organized crime.
7. States with highest porn usage also have the highest reported rape cases.
8. 1 out of 4 videos rented is “X” rated. 52% of men polled said they want video stores to carry “X” rated videos.
9. There are more porn movies produced in 2 weeks than there are movies produced in 1 year from Hollywood.
10. 86% of men have sex before marriage - 70% with a prostitute. 40% of men have extramarital intercourse.
11. Approximately 15% of Christian men have had an extramarital affair within the last year.

5. Can sexual addiction be overcome? How long will it take?

Yes it can be overcome. The amount of time will differ for different
people. It will take a long time and lots of hard work. But it can be overcome. Usually a combination of support groups and counseling can bring someone out of the darkness and into the light and freedom over time.

6. Why do some not get help until it’s too late?

There are many reasons why a person does not get help. Pride, shame and guilt are just a few. Sometimes ones life needs to spin out of control or a wife needs to leave before they see how destructive this can be.
